Call for Book Chapter Proposals

Vernon Press invites book chapter proposals to be included in a forthcoming scholarly volume on vulnerability and adaptation of food supply chains to climate change.

Description

The adverse effect of climate change and variability has become one of the biggest environmental and socio-economic challenges for society. Climate change serves as a serious inhibitor to the attainment of food security i.e. availability, accessibility, stability, utilization of nutritious food and quality drinking water. Food supply chains are perceived to be affected by climate change and variability. The key questions are: how vulnerable are food supply chain actors (input suppliers, farmers, wholesalers, processors, middlemen, exporters, retailers) to climate change and variability? What adaptation strategies are they adopting? How is resilience of the food supply chains being supported? By what means are they adopting the adaptation strategies? Are they being financed and/or supported by international organizations to cope with climate change? What governmental support are they receiving in order to cope with climate change?

Topics of interest include, among others, the following:

•    climate change effects at the farm and farming household levels, as well as across the entire food supply chain of specific commodities in a cross country setting.
•    vulnerabilities of the food supply chain actors compared across commodities and across countries
•    the impact of climate change on food production, wholesaling, processing and marketing.
•    the roles of governments, non-governmental organizations and international organizations regarding the adaptation mechanisms and resilience of food supply chains to climate change.

We invite papers on the above topics to be considered for inclusion in an edited volume to be published by Vernon Press. Submitted manuscripts will go through a single peer review process.

Finalized Draft Due: 30^th March, 2017

Revised Finalized Draft Due: 15^th June, 2017

Submission Details

Proposed book chapters should be between 6000-8000 words. Authors wishing to submit a manuscript should send an e-mail to the Editor at: jkuwornu@ait.asia / jkuwornu@gmail.com with their extended abstracts of a maximum of two pages in Microsoft Word, Times New Roman, font size 11 as an attachment. Submissions must be original contributions and not under consideration for publication at another outlet at the same time.
