Vernon Press invites book-chapter proposals for a forthcoming interdisciplinary volume on the subject of "Cultivating Dialogue in Language and Literacy Teacher Education". Educational policy and practice are becoming increasingly oriented towards pedagogies of inclusion and social justice. This book aims to address the role of classroom discourse within educational spaces as we recognize that how dialogue is cultivated within k-12 educational spaces plays a critical role in social, emotional, and intellectual development in the lives of our learners. To meet this task, this book offers theory and practice on how to conceptualize and foster transformative classroom discourse situated within teacher education programs. This book will need to both provide analysis and critique of institutional barriers to social justice discourse as well as offer reconstructive pedagogies that advance our social justice project. Of specific interest are exemplars of how social justice discourses intersect with the development of language and literacy pedagogy. In developing this book, possible contributions include the topics of:
● Social, historical and political influences on discursive practices
● Role of dialogue on learning and development
● Materiality and culture in classroom discourse
● Decolonizing and reconstructing discourse in teacher education
