Vernon Press invites original book proposals and translation proposals for previously published books (from English to Spanish or Spanish to English) as part of its Bridging Language and Scholarship (BRILS) initiative. This call for proposals welcomes both edited volumes and single-author books across a wide range of disciplines.
We accept manuscripts written in English or Spanish, as well as bilingual or translingual volumes written in both languages. This is a unique opportunity to publish academic research and extend its reach through translation and multilingual publication.
This call for book proposals and translation of academic works includes the following categories:
Original English-language manuscripts: considered for publication in English (subject to peer review) and subsequently translated and published in Spanish (subject to availability of funding or a fee waiver for select manuscripts of exceptional quality).
Original Spanish-language manuscripts: considered for publication in Spanish (subject to peer review) and subsequently translated and published in English (subject to availability of funding or a fee waiver for select manuscripts of exceptional quality).
Previously published English-language books (for which authors retain translation rights): considered for translation into Spanish and publication (subject to peer review and funding availability).
Previously published Spanish-language books (for which authors retain translation rights): considered for translation into English and publication (subject to peer review and funding availability).
Bilingual and/or translingual manuscripts written in both English and Spanish: considered for simultaneous publication in the US and Spain (subject to peer review).
The comprehensive scope of this call includes all current Vernon Press series, as well as any scholarly works within the social sciences and humanities.
The Bridging Language and Scholarship (BRILS) initiative offers a rare opportunity to publish bilingual or translated academic works and expand the global reach of your research. By publishing your book with Vernon Press, you can:
Reach international audiences in both English- and Spanish-speaking scholarly communities.
Participate in an academic translation program that supports cross-cultural exchange and linguistic diversity.
Contribute to the global dissemination of social sciences and humanities research beyond linguistic barriers.
This call supports Vernon Press’ mission to publish multilingual research and foster intellectual pluralism across disciplines and regions.

The Bridging Languages and Scholarship (BRILS) series seeks to extend the reach of selected titles by offering translations into other languages and supporting the production of multilingual and translingual texts.
One of the first books translated under BRILS is City of Children (La Ciudad de los Niños) by Francesco Tonucci, a renowned intellectual and 2019 UNICEF Spanish Committee award recipient.
BRILS continues and expands upon Vernon Press’ earlier Bridging Languages and Scholarship (BLS) initiative, driven by the recognition that excellent scholarship is produced in many languages, and that linguistic barriers often limit scholarly exchange.
In the spirit of translingual scholarship, BRILS supports authors who wish to:
Publish translations of academic works into English or Spanish
Promote linguistic diversity and multilingual publishing
Bridge disciplines, regions, and research perspectives
