Campbell, C. (2018). Claire Campbell reviews Chet Van Duzer and Lauren Beck’s Canada before Confederation: Maps at the Exhibition, Journal of the History of the Atlantic Region, July 12, published online.
Claire Campbell (Bucknell University) commends Van Duzer and Beck’s careful curation of eighteen lesser-known and unpublished Canadian manuscript maps dating between 1508 and 1772. Prust, R. (2018). Simon Smith’s Beyond realism: seeking the divine other: a study of applied metaphysics, International Journal of Philosophy and Theology, 79:1-2, 213-215.
Richard Prust (Emeritus St Andrews University) congratulates Smith’s rethinking of ‘the logic of what it means to be, or more importantly, to become a person.’ By engaging with the scholarship of several renowned philosophers and theologians, Prust believes that Smith adeptly leads us out of the philosophical confusion surrounding this issue. Roger Rothman (Bucknell University) presents a thorough review of the first English-language monograph on Spoerri’s long and varied career. Praising Cempellin’s focus on the artist’s collaborative practice, Rothman reveals how this book is a step in the right direction for drawing Spoerri out of the margins of art history. Staikidis, K. (2018) Revitalizing History: Recognizing the Struggles, Lives, and Achievements of African American and Women Art Educators, Studies in Art Education, 59:2, 159 -163.
As a professor of the history and philosophy of art education, Kryssi Staikidis (Northern Illinois University) applauds Bolin and Kantawala’s representation of the lives of African American and women art educators who have been previously hidden from view, leaving their histories untold.
