INDEPENDENT PUBLISHER OF BILINGUAL SCHOLARLY BOOKS IN THE HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Call for Book Chapters: "A Vain Talent(?): The Question of Female Artistry in 'The Tenant of Wildfell Hall'"

Vernon Press invites chapter submissions for an edited volume on Anne Brontë and the question of female artistry. Though interest and scholarship in Anne has grown in recent years, the youngest Brontë sister is still the least known and researched. Her bicentennial in 2020 was interrupted by the pandemic, and so there was not the same celebration and promotion of her life and work as her sisters.

This anthology seeks chapters on the question of female artistry as it relates to Anne’s life and work. Topics may include (but are not limited to):

  • The art (paintings, sketches, etc.) of Anne Brontë
  • Anne Brontë’s artistry as an author
  • How art affected Anne’s worldview
  • The use of art in her novels or poetry

The deadline for proposals is January 1, 2023. Please send a 200-300 word abstract to Dr. Taten Shirley (Faulkner University) at tshirley@faulkner.edu. Chapter submissions will be due April 1, 2023.

This proposal is due on January 1st 2023.
