Call for Book Chapters: “The Sound of the Past: Modernist Echoes and Incantations”
Vernon Press invites book chapters for a forthcoming edited volume of modernist essays on the subject of “The Sound of the Past: Modernist Echoes and Incantations”, edited by Susan McCabe, Catherine Theis, Steven Minas.
Although critics have long known that many modernists were forced by war’s destruction and desecration of lands to look deeply into the past for connection and transmission, the focus of this collection is to situate modernism as a crisis that exposed many historical and cultural pivot points beyond the repressions of the Victorians. It will explore how the past is always living in the present, especially in the act of creation, through four main authors: T.S. Eliot, Virginia Woolf, Hope Mirrlees, and H.D.
We invite proposals that address the relationship between Modernism and its past in the work of T.S. Eliot, Virginia Woolf, Hope Mirrlees, and H.D. This relationship can address issues of language, sound, aesthetics, sight, technology, translation, and gender (among many other topics/themes).
Please limit your proposals to 750 words. Should your proposal be accepted, the target range of the chapter would be approximately 6,000-7,500 words.
Deadline for Proposals: July 15, 2023
