Call for chapter proposals: "Legacies of Influence: Examinations of a Post-Confederate South"
We are pleased to announce a call for chapter proposals for an edited volume titled Legacies of Influence: Examinations of a Post-Confederate South. This collection seeks to explore the enduring impacts and complex legacies of Confederate ideology and structures across the American South following the Civil War, broadly defined.
Topics
Proposals addressing, but not limited to, the following areas of inquiry are welcome:
- Religion and spiritual practices
- Racial violence and its historical echoes
- Economic systems and land ownership patterns
- Political activism and institutional development
- Forms of resistance and community resilience
- Cultural expressions and identity formation
- Educational systems and knowledge transmission
- Legal frameworks and their evolution
Submission Guidelines
- Please submit a 500-word proposal clearly outlining your chapter's focus, methodological approach, and significance to the volume's theme.
- Include a brief biographical statement and CV highlighting relevant expertise.
- Proposals should be sent to Dr. Joshua Butler at joshua.butler@asurams.edu
- Deadline for full consideration: July 15, 2025
A publisher has expressed interest in this volume. Selected contributors will be notified by August 2025, with completed chapter drafts (approximately 6,000-8,000 words) due in Fall 2025.
