Call for book chapter proposals: "Hashtag Economy: Navigating Finance, Identity, and Digital Influence"

Overview:

Today, social media is important not just for keeping in touch with others, but for influencing economic activity, how money is discussed and the way people and organizations are perceived in the global market. Hashtag Economy aims to investigate how financial systems and concepts of economic citizenship are being changed by the links between finance, social media and culture, with hashtags, viral trends and digital networks playing central roles. This book wants to explore the many ways social media shapes people’s approach to money management, self-image in terms of money and how trust among people is organized within electronic networks. Academic contributions will look closely at things like social investing, cryptocurrency communities, misinformation about finance, the impact of influence through internet marketing and how finance is portrayed today.

Rationale:

There is an increasing role of social media in the financial sector. Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and emerging decentralized networks help information spread quickly, attract crowdfunding and support new types of economic activities. Hashtags help raise awareness about social and political issues and can also boost economic activity and change the market’s mood. However, many aspects of this landscape are yet to be fully explored in academic research, primarily by joining the fields of finance, media studies, communication, cultural studies and digital sociology. To address this gap, the book combines views from various experts, like finance specialists and media analysts and explores new ideas on economic trust, the development of online financial communities and the impact of hierarchy in the social media market. This book is set to become a key reference for students, financial experts and policymakers who want to learn more about the digital influence on the financial industry.

Scope and Themes:

The book includes chapters that explore, but are not restricted to, the following themes:

  • The influence of hashtags and popular social media trends on the financial world
  • The impact of social media on who investors are, how many participate and how finance is made more accessible
  • Building and disputing trust in digital banking networks
  • How influencer culture shapes the ways people approach financial decisions and shopping
  • Spread of misinformation, online rumours and complicated regulations in social sites
  • Cryptocurrency, blockchain and economic changes driven by social media.
  • The ways finance is discussed in social media using examples from culture
  • The social revolution surrounding stocks such as GameStop and cryptocurrency networks
  • The ethical and social justice concerns related to finance in digital media
