Call for Proposals – Diaspora and Migration in History
Vernon Press invites scholars, historians, and researchers to submit book proposals on the topic of Diaspora and Migration in History. This is an excellent opportunity to publish research on migration, diasporic communities, and global histories with a leading academic publisher.
Why Submit a Proposal?
Migration is a constant in human history, shaping societies, cultures, and economies. From ancient trade routes and nomadic movements to mass migrations caused by war, persecution, colonization, and environmental change, the study of migration history provides critical insights into global processes.
Diasporic communities have historically been agents of cultural diffusion, economic exchange, and political advocacy. Their legacies are evident in art, language, cuisine, religion, and activism. By publishing your research on migration and diaspora, you can explore how these movements continue to shape contemporary society and thought.
Understanding past migrations also contextualizes pressing modern issues such as refugee crises, transnational identities, and cultural hybridity. Key questions include:
-
What drives people to leave their homelands?
-
How have receiving societies responded to newcomers?
-
In what ways have migration patterns shaped national narratives, cultural exchange, and global interconnectedness?
Scope of the Call for Proposals
We welcome book proposals that employ a critical, interdisciplinary approach to migration history and diaspora studies. Recent scholarship highlights themes including:
-
Decolonization, human rights, and transnational networks
-
The intersection of migration with power, inequality, and resistance
-
Memory, heritage, and storytelling as tools for reconstructing migration experiences
Proposals may analyze primary sources such as personal testimonies, letters, photographs, and oral histories to bring human voices to the fore and challenge dominant narratives about identity, belonging, and exclusion.
