Call for Editors – Edited Volumes on AI in Social Science
Vernon Press is looking for editors to coordinate collective book projects exploring how artificial intelligence is shaping the social sciences.
We welcome scholars interested in the social, cultural, or philosophical questions raised by AI, and who are eager to bring together a range of perspectives, voices, and research insights in an edited volume.
Help Shape the Scholarly Conversation on AI and Society
AI is no longer just a technological concern, it has become a force that shapes how we understand agency, labor, surveillance, identity, and even knowledge itself. In fields like sociology, political science, anthropology, and linguistics, this shift demands a critical, and often interdisciplinary, response.
As an editor, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop the thematic outline of the volume
- Curate contributions from new and established scholars
- Oversee the academic and editorial development of the volume, from initial proposal to final publication, with the full support of our team
We are particularly interested in volumes that ask:
- How are our ideas about agency, labor, surveillance, and truth changing in response to new technologies?
- What happens when machines start playing a role in how we make decisions, understand the world, or even care for others?
- How are communities grappling with questions of trust, fairness, and bias as people and machines increasingly work together?
Suggested Areas of Focus
Possible themes for edited volumes include (but are not limited to):
- AI and social theory: exploring new paradigms and conceptual challenges
- Human–AI interaction in areas like public services, healthcare, and education
- Ethical, legal, and governance issues in the global development and use of AI
- The impact of AI on labor, surveillance, identity, and representation
- Cross-cultural and comparative perspectives on how societies are responding to AI
Who Should Apply
We welcome expressions of interest from academics who:
- Are engaged in relevant social science or interdisciplinary research
- Have experience (or strong interest) in academic editing or project coordination
- Are well-connected within scholarly networks
Doctoral candidates nearing completion, early-career scholars, and senior academics are all welcome to apply.
How to Express Interest
To be considered as an editor of an upcoming volume, please email us at submissions@vernonpress.com with:
- A brief statement of interest
- A short bio (or CV)
- (Optional) A proposed theme or preliminary list of contributors
We are happy to discuss ideas. We can support you in drafting and organizing the volume by issuing a call for chapters to attract relevant contributions.
