Call for Book Chapter Proposals: "Pedagogy: Using television shows, games, and other media in the Classroom"
Vernon Press invites book chapters for a forthcoming edited volume on the subject of “Pedagogy: Using television shows, games, and other media in the Classroom.”
As teachers, we often look for creative ways to keep students engaged in our classrooms, while not compromising on teaching the skills that students need to learn. Television shows, games, podcasts, etc. can all be good ways to engage students and help them to connect with the material. Adding non-traditional media to a classroom can also help to engage students at different levels of understanding and with different abilities in ways that traditional readings and lectures might not work.
This edited volume seeks to include essays where instructors discuss their projects, the media used, the learning goals, and the student outcomes. Essays should include
- current research on learning methods, but can choose how to approach that concept
- an overview of the project or concept
- a discussion of the methods used in the classroom
- a discussion of how students responded, or how grades or project outcomes were impacted
- a discussion of why this is important to the field (your specific field or pedagogy in general)
If you are interested in contributing to the edited volume, please submit your proposal (500-700 words), and biography (100 words) by December 1, 2022 to the book editor, Laura Dumin (ldumin@uco.edu). Notification of proposal acceptance or rejection will be communicated by January 15, 2023.
If your submission is accepted for inclusion in the volume, we will ask you to meet the following deadlines:
- First chapter draft due: April 1, 2023
- Peer-reviewed draft returned: July 1, 2023
- Final chapter draft due: October 1, 2023
This proposal is due on December 1st 2022.
