Call for Book Proposals: Towards new kinds of Education: Interdisciplinary and Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS)
Vernon Press invites monographs and edited volume proposals on the theme: “Towards new kinds of Education: Interdisciplinary and Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS),” for our book series in Education.
In our rapidly evolving social world, the skills needed and valued within the job market have changed. Today’s students are discovering that it is no longer sufficient to have a high school diploma and degree, but that they must be able to demonstrate practical skills such as flexibility, creativity, and self-fulfillment (Claus et al., 2017). Thus, a need for developing new, innovative education systems has emerged.
In response to changing circumstances, pedagogical approaches that focus on interdisciplinary education and/or “Liberal Arts and Sciences” (LAS) are becoming increasingly popular. By providing a more rounded and comprehensive education LAS provides students with the necessary tools to become global citizens. LAS not only facilitates the acquisition of transferable skills such as reasoning, critical analysis, and communication but also allows students to strengthen their own abilities and to participate as coherent members of society (Sithole et al., 2016).
The scope of the present call is broad. All issues stemming from the transition from traditional to new educational methods, its advantages, disadvantages and the changes they involve are potentially relevant. Possible topics include (non-comprehensive list):
- Transition from traditional to integral educational methods
- Meaning, purpose, and practice of LAS and interdisciplinary education
- New tools in schools/universities
- New assessment techniques for new ways of education
- Similarities and differences between interdisciplinary and LAS education
- The development of quality standards in the Liberal Arts
- Liberal Arts and society evolution
Deadline for proposals: March 31st 2019
